Ahhhhh, Riga. The Latvian capital with gothic architecture, cobbled streets, over-the-top cocktail bars and so much more. This Baltic country is often overlooked, but having visited twice, I think it has a lot to offer the discerning traveller. Plus… it’s on the UK’s green list, and Riga Airport offers rapid COVID tests that satisfy the UK governments departure requirements for just 20 euros.
I have fond memories of walking the streets of Old Town Riga, visiting quirky cocktail bars including MoRestBar and the rooftop SkyLine Bar and visiting the palatial House of Blackheads. So when I came across the prestigious luxury 5* Grand Poet Hotel (rated 5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor) at half the usual rate at just £77 per night, plus super cheap flights from Luton (and still affordable from Gatwick), I just had to share this trip inspiration – which works out at just £131pp for a 3 night break.
The Grand Poet By Semarah is a 5* luxury city centre hotel. I’ve stayed here myself – and it is just stunning. This is reflected in its near perfect TripAdvisor and Booking.com reviews. The hotel hosts a luxury pool and spa, gourmet breakfasts and very opulent and comfy rooms. I’ve spotted this hotel between September and December, including weekend dates, on Agoda.com for just £77 per night – nearly half of the usual rate – plus an additional 5% off using an Agoda promo code.
I’ve spotted exceptionally cheap flights from London Luton to Riga for £16 return with both RyanAir and Wizz. Both offer you the opportunity to take a backpack onboard without any extra cost – perfect for a short weekend break. Alternatively, you can find flights from Gatwick for approx £70-£80pp.
I took a look at a long weekend in September: Friday 17th September – Monday 20th September.
Return RyanAir flights from London Luton to Riga: £32 for 2 people. £16pp.
Discounted Grand Poet Hotel stay via Agoda.com: £231 for 2 people including breakfast. £116pp.
