With the news that there is likely to be a travel corridor between the UK and Italy this summer (with Italy’s rates of infection way lower than the UKs), holiday companies have been shouting about the huge swathes of people booking up to visit Europe in August. So – I put my thinking cap on – and put together a bargain long weekend in Milan for just £85pp including return UK flights and a well-rated central hotel. The travel corridor between the UK + Italy isn’t confirmed yet, so the hotel option i’ve found offers free cancellation in the event that the travel corridor doesn’t happen – so worst case you only lose the cost of the flights which are just £18 each.

The deal i’ve found is from Friday August 21st – Monday August 24th, so a long weekend, but there are other weekends or dates available in August for a similar cost. The flights are with WizzAir from London Luton – Milan Malpensa with a small carry-on bag (Luton isn’t my favourite airport, but given parking is relatively cheap – I think it’s worth it!). If you’re thinking of doing shopping whilst you’re there, you can always add an additional bag to just the return leg of the trip.

The hotel is the 43 Station Hotel, which is just 100 yards from Milan Central station. It’s a relatively basic hotel, but is really well rated (9/10 on and offers everything you need for a short break.

Milan is the centre of fashion and shopping in Europe. I love the city and have visited 4 times in the last 2 years. As well as shopping, Milan has some incredible architecture (the ‘Duomo’ cathedral is one of the largest and most impressive in the world) and some top quality restaurants. Lake Como is a very short train away too.
